Food for thought

Psalm 127

English Standard Version (ESV)
A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon.
 1Unless the LORD builds the house,
   those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city,
   the watchman stays awake in vain.
2It is in vain that you rise up early
   and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
   for he gives to his beloved sleep.

Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,
    the fruit of the womb a reward.
4Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
   are the children of one’s youth.
5Blessed is the man
   who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
   when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

Worry

Every morning I'm reminding myself of the truth. I am not of this world, God is pouring his love out on me and he is never surprised by my actions or my troubles. Although I may be blind sided by many problems he saw them coming and has a plan if I would only listen.

Nothing is impossible for God. He placed the moon in the sky with his awesome might. He laid the foundations of the earth and knew the number of hairs on my head before I was born. And although I do not know what God has for me in the future, I know it is good. So I am thankful for what I have, content in my situation not longing for something more but thanking God for what he in his loving kindness and mercy has given me.

In this life I shouldn't focus on where I'll be in ten years or how am I going to afford the new car. Or even where am I going to live or where is my income going to come from. These worries that seem so important are not what God wants me to focus on. So I will seek him first and I will trust him to provide a job and a home for my family. I give thanks to God for where I am in my life and showing me that I must Reilly on him.

Mathew 6:25-34
   25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?
   28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Psalm 119

Short post today just a passage that jumped out at me last night. Have a great weekend everyone!!

Psalm 119:9-16 ESV

How can a young man keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.
10 With my whole heart I seek you;
let me not wander from your commandments!
11 I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
12 Blessed are you, O Lord;
teach me your statutes!
13 With my lips I declare
all the rules of your mouth.
14 In the way of your testimonies I delight
as much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on your precepts
and fix my eyes on your ways.
16 I will delight in your statutes;
I will not forget your word.

Self Control

"A man without self control
is like a city broken into and left without walls"
Proverbs 25:28 ESV

Pretty busy today but this verse jumped out at me this morning. A city without walls is without defense and when attacked it will fall. With a crafty enemy inside ourselves (our flesh) and such a dangerous enemy outside (the devil) I'd say we need many strong walls. Let us exercise self control in everything so that when temptation comes we will not fall.

1 Peter 5:8-11 NIV 8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

 "Be careful if you think you stand, You just might be sinking." Casting Crowns slowfade

New Christain Bible Blog

"Paradoxically Chosen"
A paradox is defined as "A statement or proposition that seems self-contradictory or absurd but in reality expresses a possible truth. " http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/paradox
The term Chosen  is a synonym of "Elect" which is defined as "Theology . a person or persons chosen by God, esp. for favor or salvation" http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/elect

When I say "Chosen" I'm talking about being set apart by God. When I say Paradoxically I'm referring to our internal paradox. We are given freedom, reborn as saints yet our flesh remains trapped in sin. We are adopted into the house of God yet so often like the pig we return to the mud. Our two natures contradict themselves within ourselves turning us into walking paradoxes.

In this blog I will be talking about; Christianity, God, and the Bible. I plan on throwing out some ideas and opinions, some things I've discovered and anything that God puts on my heart to write. You won't agree with everything I say here, and that is fine I won't claim to get everything right. God is the holder of all wisdom and he gives it out as he see's fit. I pray that I don't say anything too foolish. Feel free to comment on any of my posts.

Bible Study Software

http://xiphos.org/
Free Bible Study Software

I found this a couple months ago and I'd recommend it if your looking for a free tool to use on your computer. The software was easy to use and it allowed me to search for words in the bible or just in certain books which I found helpful when I couldn't remember the exact verse. Your also able to view multiple versions side by side.
